TCF & British Council collaborate for new programs

TCF and British Council in Karachi have recently collaborated for new programs designed around physical education and training for teaching English. Here is a brief review:

English for Teaching - Teaching for English (ETTE)

TCF and British Council have partnered to implement British Council's training program, 'English for Teaching - Teaching for English' or ETTE. The program covers the pedagogical skills of a teacher to teach English and helps strengthen her own linguistic skills to deliver a lesson adeptly in English. British Council and TCF worked together on modifying the content, adapting it to TCF context, and linking it with the previous cycle's training on Critical Thinking. The resultant module was rolled out by British Council trainers to 60 ELTs from TCF network in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore in March 2011. These 60 trainers will now take the program forward to more than 600 ELTs across the network during the annual in service training (INSET). Significant costs linked to both material development and training were graciously funded by British Council.

International Inspirations - Physical Education

The British Government has started a physical education (PE) program aligned with London 2012 Olympics called 'International Inspirations'. The program aims to promote high quality and inclusive Physical Education by establishing partnerships between schools in the developing world and British Schools. In this regard, a Principal from each of TCF four regions was selected to attend a four day training in Karachi in January. A follow-up training was conducted in the UK in March, where the first TCF group comprising two Principals [from TCF Schools in Juma Himayati Goth and Rasheedabad] and members of the HO and Regional teams participated in a 5 day Training program. TCF representatives were given the opportunity to interface with their partner schools and establish a closer liaison for taking the program forward. The second group from TCF, comprising the other 2 Principals [from TCF Schools in Bhai Pheru and Khushab] is expected to travel to UK in July 2011. All costs related to the Training have been borne by British Council.
